With profound sorrow…

With profound sorrow, we report the untimely death of our dear friend and Habeas colleague, Joe La Bella, on March 5, 2025.  Joe fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Ultimately, the disease defeated him physically, but it never broke his spirit.  Joe was a gentle soul and a great and loyal friend. 

Towards the end of The Wizard of Oz, the Wizard, giving a heart to the Tin Man, says, “a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”  Measured by that standard, Joe had a very large heart, indeed.  We will miss him terribly.
